Dong Youhai, Chief Physician (Grade II), Professor and Master's Supervisor, graduated from Tongji Medical University and has worked in clinical care, teaching and research in orthopedics for more than 37 years. He formerly served as Deputy Director and Director of Orthopedics and Deputy Director of the Surgery Teaching and Research Section at Shanghai Fifth People's Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, and was a discipline leader of a Fudan University 985 advantage discipline; he now serves as Director of the Second Ward of Orthopedics at Yida Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai University.
He has long specialized in spine surgery, trauma orthopedics and the diagnosis and treatment of bone and joint disease, with a solid theoretical grounding and extensive clinical experience, a thorough command of the standardized diagnosis and treatment of common and difficult, complex orthopedic conditions, and an active approach to new techniques and services. He was the first in China to carry out percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (AO SpiRit system), widely performs highly complex orthopedic surgery on the cervical spine, thoracolumbar spine, spine, joints and pelvis, and is dedicated to providing patients with precise, minimally invasive and standardized care.
He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spondylosis, thoracolumbar degenerative disease, spinal trauma, pelvic fractures and various complex orthopedic conditions, and skillfully performs cervical and thoracolumbar surgery and various minimally invasive spinal procedures.
He has extensive experience in the surgical treatment of complex orthopedic conditions of the spine, joints and pelvis, and can develop individualized treatment plans according to the patient's condition, providing precise and efficient orthopedic care.
He has long conducted basic and clinical research on constructing artificial vertebral plates from tissue-engineered bone, innovatively established an in vitro model of cerebrospinal fluid pressure changes in the spine, independently developed a cerebrospinal fluid pulsation bioreactor, and was the first to reveal the mechanism by which continuous cerebrospinal fluid pulsation regulates the physiological reconstruction of artificial vertebral plates and the mechanical-biological signal conversion, laying an important theoretical foundation for the clinical translation of the related technology.
He has led 1 National Natural Science Foundation project, 5 provincial and ministerial research projects and 3 district-level research projects, and guided and taken part in more than 10 provincial, municipal and district research projects; he has published more than 30 academic papers, including 18 SCI papers, several of them in internationally renowned journals such as Spine, Tissue Engineering and NPJ Regenerative Medicine; he has served as chief editor or contributor for 7 professional books, and as first contributor received 7 provincial and district science and technology progress awards (including 3 provincial third prizes and 4 district awards), and trained 18 master's students. He has received honors including Advanced Worker of the Shanghai Health System, Leading Talent of Minhang District, Shanghai, and the Outstanding Innovation Gold Award of the Shanghai Outstanding Invention Selection Competition, and receives the special government allowance of the State Council and the special allowance of the Hubei Provincial People's Government.
