Published: 08.31.2026

On 20 August, a party from the expert team of the Mayo Clinic in the United States, led by Director Marlana Beck and Professor Philip R. Fischer, visited Yida Hospital, School of Medicine, Shanghai University (Yida Hospital for short) for exchange. This visit was both a cross-border academic dialogue and an important mark of Yida Hospital's exploration in the field of international medical collaboration.

When Mayo Meets Yida

At 9 a.m., the expert team arrived at the hospital and, accompanied by representatives of the hospital, visited its core areas. From the welcome reception in the north outpatient hall, to the display of Party building work and milestones in the central hall exhibition area, and then to the introduction of the Yuanda Health City plan in the model display area, the expert team spoke highly of the hospital's facilities and development plan. The team then went to the coronary bypass training base at the VIP/International Medical Center and the viewing platform on the fifth floor, moving from touring the space to sharing ideas and gaining a fuller understanding of the hospital's achievements in specialty development and optimizing the medical environment.

From a Meeting of Minds to a Shared Vision for the Future

At the symposium, Vice President Yu Zhiqing extended a warm welcome to the Mayo Clinic expert team on behalf of Yida Hospital, and introduced the hospital's development, discipline building, technological innovation and social responsibility. In his address, Professor Wan Feng of the Heart Center emphasized that Yida Hospital keeps the patient at the center and is dedicated to providing high-quality medical services, and expressed the hope of working with international medical institutions for shared development through this exchange.

Ms. Marlana Beck, Director of Business Development in the International Department of the Mayo Clinic in the United States, gave an address on behalf of the expert team. As one of the world's leading not-for-profit integrated healthcare systems, the Mayo Clinic's philosophy that "the needs of the patient come first" has spanned more than a century, and its outstanding clinical service, medical research and education have made it a benchmark for the global healthcare industry. More than a million people receive treatment at the Mayo Clinic each year, and several million more have found answers, cures and hope through its innovations and discoveries. Both Director Marlana Beck and Professor Philip R. Fischer particularly noted that the Mayo Clinic and Yida Hospital are closely aligned in their thinking in fields such as multidisciplinary collaboration and precision medicine, and that there is broad scope for cooperation in the future. The two sides held in-depth discussions on topics including the development of medical technology, talent training and research cooperation.

Medicine Knows No Borders; Exchange Drives Development

At the end of the event, Lin Lijun, a representative of the Yida Hospital leadership, gave concluding remarks, expressing the hope that Yida Hospital and the Mayo Clinic would take this visit as a starting point and carry out deeper cooperation in fields such as coordinated medical education, clinical care and research innovation, jointly advancing the progress of healthcare. Yida Hospital will continue to broaden its international outlook, so that higher-quality and more caring medical services become a solid force protecting the health of the city.
